This interactive map shows how the city was configured after the 1948 War, wherein Israel conquered about 84 percent of the city area and incorporated it into the city that it declared was its capital. While additional modifications were made to the city’s western boundaries over the next 19 years (as indicated by the variations in areas colored beige on the map—see Legend), the east remained under Jordanian control until the next war in 1967.
