In the media, Palestinian Jerusalemites are largely depicted in one of two extremes: in devastating distress next to a demolished home (eliciting pity), or in a rageful crowd either demonstrating or committing actions that appear threatening (eliciting fear).
On a mission to transform these stereotypic extremes and to retell the Jerusalem Story, we asked our photographers to take their lenses into the streets and capture images of people going about their city in the course of everyday life—working, shopping, strolling, playing, eating, and relating. For once, we wanted this community to have a chance to cast its own gaze on itself.
Here we share the first set of pictures from this assignment; we will soon share more.
